Who am I and what I do
I’m an expert in helping couples maximise their chances in getting their bodies ready for conception, whether you choose a natural path or an assisted option (IVF, ICSI, IUI, etc). I work with couples who have been trying to conceive for a period of a year (if aged under 35 years) or 6 months (if aged over 35 years) without any success.
Unlike other therapists, I only focus on couples who truly want to maximise their chances of being able to conceive, by providing all the relevant tools and information and most importantly a listening ear. I teach you how to fuel your body with the correct foods and how to relax during what is probably the most stressful times in their life.
When my husband and I found we couldn’t conceive naturally, it felt like our world came crashing down around us. All we were told by the doctors was that it was a male factor fertility issue and that we need to wait for the IVF hospital to send their letter through. That was it.
As we were the first in the family to experience this, we didn’t know who to turn to for help or advice or what to do next –we felt completely alone and isolated.
My passion, and my part time job, was being a complementary therapist. In fact, I launched Have A Massage, helping other people by treating them in a holistic manner. I found I got immense satisfaction when I could help people who were experiencing some sort of pain or discomfort, and leave them saying ‘Oh that was good’ or ‘I feel so much better than when I first came in’.
I had met various therapists during my work, and one therapist in particular was going through her own fertility issues. She directed me to an online forum, that became somewhere I could truly turn to, and she also told me about the alternative natural options that we could go through to try and maximise our chances of natural conception and possibly avoid the IVF.
So we researched these options. I started with acupuncture, and the acupuncturist also referred us to a nutritionist who completely turned our diets around for the better. We had 9 months of regular treatments and saw the nutritionist on a monthly basis for 6 months.
Finally, December 2007 found us seeing a positive line on that pregnancy test – we were finally having the baby we so longed for. I strongly believe that it was the 9 months of lifestyle changes that we made that contributed to the IVF (with ICSI) working first time. It turns out, a scan in January 2008 revealed it was not one baby but two – we were having twins 🙂
Once the twins arrived, we never kept it a secret that we had had IVF to get our miracle babies. Friends found it easy to approach us to talk to us – something we didn’t have the luxury of when we were going through it ourselves. I even had two friends come to me for reflexology to see how it would benefit them as they were having trouble conceiving too.
It was clear to my friends, if not me at first, that my personal experience, complementary therapy background, and willingness to talk about my journey meant that I would make a great fertility coach.
So by combining my own personal experiences and training to be a fertility reflexologist, l have devised my own ‘Maximise your chances of conception’ programme. I do TRULY love helping people who are in pain and discomfort (and believe me there is a lot of emotional pain connected to not being able to conceive) hence the birth of Fertility, Bump and Beyond.
My clients tell me I have magic hands and that I am a wealth of knowledge – I believe knowledge should be passed on if it can help someone else. And so I want to pass it on to you. I feel I have the best job in the world being able to help towards a couple’s dream of being parents.
