Who I am and what I do
My name is Lorraine Bold and I am Holistic therapist using Reflexology and Massage to treat people. Since I have qualified I have found that I was meeting Clients interested in having help with fertility issues, so I have enrolled in the specific courses and I now specialise in this field of Fertility reflexology and Massage. I also offer nutritional advice and help to prepare the body for conception whether this occurs naturally or assisted.
At just twenty four, I discovered I was having difficulties conceiving our much wanted first child. After a year of trying we got referred for some tests and it was discovered that between my partner and I, it would be very unlikely that we could conceive naturally. I had no idea this was going to be the case, both sides of the family had never experienced difficulties before. We were then placed on a 3 year waiting list for IVF. I found this time very lonely and particularly stressful. I was offered no alternative and little advice on what I could do to help boost my fertility. The consultant advised that my husband should merely eat grapes. No other nutritional advice or support was provided…
Eventually we decided IVF was the route we would take and began treatment. The clinic were very inexperienced with treating people of my age and the treatment plan didn’t run smoothly with me over stimulating and producing a beehive of ‘follicles’. This led to an early abandonment of the treatment and starting over again on the next cycle. I was injecting myself for over 3 months. Finally on the day of egg retrieval I had 3 eggs collected and just the one egg fertilised. So with little hope the poor ‘grade 3’ embryo was implanted (with bags of hope) and 2 weeks later with much surprise I discovered I was pregnant. It was the 23rd of December and the best Christmas present ever. The pregnancy continued relatively smoothly and on the 10th September 2007 my little miracle was born.
3 years later we decided to try again. This time changing clinics to one nearer to home which made my treatment less stressful and time consuming do to trying to fit appointments around nursery and work. I wasn’t so lucky this time as I miscarried at 6 weeks. Looking back I wasn’t as healthy as I could have been and I am sure this contributed to the pregnancy ending very early on. I was however fortunate to freeze some embryo’s and one of those went on to be successful and our second son entered the world on the 9th December 2011.
The IVF/ICSI science has really progressed from our first treatment in 2007. In 2014 I had one final round of ICSI and I was blessed to complete our family with the arrival of James Daniel on the 28th November.
I feel very lucky to have had 4 treatments and 3 beautiful boys. I have always been honest about the treatment and the fact the boys are conceived with medical assistance. This has allowed me to help lots of friends and family who have found themselves in similar situations. To have someone to listen and offer an understanding ear is so important.
I took the time to research how alternative therapies can help. I also joined support groups and looked into how diet and lifestyle can affect both the male and female when trying to conceive. We made lots of changes cutting out caffeine fizzy drinks, wheat, diary and generally lived a healthier lifestyle. I also enjoyed weekly reflexology sessions and continued this throughout my treatment and during pregnancy and found it to be beneficial in keeping me calm and relaxed at what was a difficult time. This was what made me decide to become a therapist myself. I have always been interested in holistic therapies and I have a passion to help people. I am aware that often lifestyle and the environment can play a huge part in the conception journey and also in achieving a healthy pregnancy. I help clients to relax and optimise their fertility.
I have a wealth of knowledge and experience and have treated clients who have a variety of medical conditions which can often make conception difficult. I take pride in my work and ensure that I keep up to date with the latest research and changes that occur in Fertility treatments . I regularly attend courses and enjoy learning new treatments to offer my clients.
