What’s the menopause?

 

As you get older, your body starts producing less and less oestrogen; your egg stores decrease, and you stop ovulating. Over a few years, this will make your body go through some changes. 

The actual menopause is the last day of your last ever period.  This tends to happen between the ages of 45 and 55. The stage before this is called your “peri-menopause” and during this time you can experience the following symptoms: 

  • Hot flushes
  • Night sweats
  • Sleepiness
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Irritated skin
  • Urinary incontinence
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Low mood
  • Low libido/sex drive
